First of all, we must start with I am the legal copyright holder of my book, In Thy Tender Care. I have the certificate and everything. NO ONE has the right to distribute free copies of my book they did not pay for without my express written permission.
Piracy is wrong. It is illegal. And you should not pirate books OR download pirated copies of books (or any other media for that matter).
But at the same time, I do probably have a bit of a… twisted sense of justice.
The case study
I think there are a few things about the site/listing of my books that you should know.
First of all, the URL and site title on the page did not match.
Secondly, it boasts 541k ratings of my book on its site. I mean, I’d be thrilled if half a million people have read my book, but I think I’d have more ratings on other sites if that were the case. (Although if you’ve read my book already and haven’t left a rating, you would have my undying gratitude for leaving a review on Amazon or Goodreads or wherever you bought your copy!)
Thirdly, May 30, 2026 seemed like everyone’s ideal day to review my book. I didn’t take the time to scroll through all of them, but there were at least a hundred generic, single-sentence-long reviews ALL posted on May 30.
I don’t know about you, but May 30 is always when I want to read a Christmas book!
Hopefully, you’re starting to understand my point…
Sites like these are not legitimate. They are running an illegal operation.
Despite all of their assurances that they just want to make books free for everyone, they exist to make money. And they make that money from you.
While I would be incredibly curious to see what would open if I downloaded the file on their site, I know my computer would instantly be flooded with malware, and I’d have all of my personal information stolen.
So if you want to read illegal, pirated copies of books—including my own In Thy Tender Care—you go right ahead and do that, but you can’t say I didn’t warn you.
However, if you’re interested in reading my book legally without risking your computer, you can find it here:
